Too Cool No More? Amanda Demme Loses Roosevelt Nightlife Contract

Sunday April 16, 2006
Hollywood Roosevelt HotelI recently declared the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel a "visit but don't stay" venue for tourists due to the unfriendliness and exclusivity of the in-house bar, Teddy's and poolside club, Tropicana, which excluded the majority of hotel guests. At the end of March, the hotel ended its contract with nightclub diva Amanda Demme, who kept those venues exclusive. It remains to be seen what the scene will look like at the Roosevelt without Demme's A-list guests, but hopefully the new managers will open the venues to guests of the hotel, as well as Hollywood celebs.

Allowing the masses into this lounge will signal the end of the Roosevelt Hotel. PERIOD.

Who wants to drink a martini next to Aunt Mabel from Ohio?

It’s ok for Hollywood to have exclusive, A-List nightclubs, but they shouldn’t put them in hotels. Hotel bars and nightclubs should be open to people who stay in the hotel. That’s part of what they are paying for as guests of the hotel.

The end of the Hollywood Roosevelt – oh please! It was the site of the first Oscars. It survived Hollywood’s darkest days.

The above comment just prooves that the patrons of new celeb ‘Hollywood’ have no regard for the history of the place.

I applaud the – not so new – management of the Roosevelt for this bold move and wish Demme all the best in Vegas and NYC.
