Cult of Saints and Ensor’s Graphic Modernism at the Getty Center
Tuesday April 25, 2006
Saint Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of lost things, has always done a good job of keeping track of my car keys, among other things. He’s one of 32 saints named Anthony in the Patron Saints Index. Devotion to saints dating back 1000 years is the subject of the Cult of Saints exhibit, which opened today at the Getty Center in Brentwood. The exhibit includes painted manuscripts depicting saints and their lives on earth and in heaven. Cult of Saints runs April 25 to July 16, 2006.
Next Tuesday, May 2nd, another new exhibit opens at the Getty, featuring the work of Belgian artist James Ensor (1860-1949). Ensor’s Graphic Modenism will run May 2 to July 30, 2006.
