Fireworks Will Be Back on the Queen Mary for July 4th
Monday June 19, 2006
After a dark year in 2005 due to a conflict with the City of Long Beach over fees, the Queen Mary will once again be hosting my favorite 4th of July fireworks display. The fact that I can avoid traffic and walk down to the beach to watch them for free may influence my opinion.
When: Tuesday, July 4th, about 9 pm
Where: This exhibition can be seen from the miles of beach and bluff opposite the historic ship as well as from Shoreline Village. I haven’t tested the viewing potential of the newer restaurants at the Pike, but there are several with patios facing the right direction. Families claim the prime beach picnic and viewing spots early. Late dinner reservations at prime viewing restaurants and on the ship itself are at a premium so book ahead. You can also view the spectacle from the deck of the ship.
Cost: Free viewing from sites off the Queen Mary. Adult admission to the Queen Mary for the 4th of July range from $25.95 to $34.95 with discounts for children, seniors and military. Paid admission is not required for dining aboard the ship.
Parking: at the Queen Mary on the 4th will be $15
Info: www.queenmary.com
The ship will also host Fourth of July children’s activities with live entertainment by Radio Disney at the Seawalk on July 3rd and 4th. See the Queen Mary website for more information.
