Long Beach to Catalina by Water Ski, Jet Ski and Powerboat

Wednesday July 5, 2006
The Long Beach Sea Festival continues this weekend with a series of three races from Long Beach to Catalina and back. Saturday's Water Ski Race will begin at the peculiar hour of 8:53 am. The winners are expected to return within an hour. Sunday at 8 am about 40 Jet Skis and other personal water craft will compete for the first time, with an expected return time around 9:15-9:30 am. The final and fastest race at 11 am will be between power boats that reach up to 180 mph. All race times depend on water and weather conditions.

The water ski and Jet Ski races are best viewed from the Queen Mary, Shoreline Park or Shoreline Marina. The Power Boat Race start and finish can be seen from the west side of the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier.
