New Passport Law Takes Effect Today

Tuesday January 23, 2007
Many people, when visiting Los Angeles for the first time, also schedule in a side trip to Mexico. Starting today, January 23, 2007, American citizens need to carry a U.S. passport to return from Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean by air. For the time being, you can still use a U.S. driver's license with a birth certificate to get back into the country if you're driving or walking across the border, but that will change in 2008.
