World's Largest Meatball Record Broken at Feast of San Gennaro LA

Friday September 25, 2009

World's Largest Meatball with Jimmy Kimmel and Tommy LaSordaThe Guinness World Record for the world's largest meatball was broken live on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, broadcasting from the Prima Notte Gala for the Precious Cheese Feast of San Gennaro in Hollywood. That's the second Guinness World Record broken in LA in just a week, following the record lobster feast last weekend in San Pedro.

Jimmy Kimmel and Guillermo with the World's Largest MeatballThree giant meatballs were prepared by Team Meatball USA in an attempt to break the 109 lb record set by Mexico. The smallest of the three was already a record breaker, and the largest set the new record at 198.6 lbs, not quite meeting Jimmy Kimmel's goal of having a meatball as heavy as his sidekick, Guillermo, who weighed in at 208 lbs. But to be fair, Guillermo was fully dressed, so they came awfully close.

Tommy LaSorda was on hand as the official meatball taster to certify that the meatball was edible - edible maybe, but I had a taste and wouldn't want another. It didn't compare favorably with relatively normal-size jumbo meatballs you can get at the Frankies on Melrose booth at the Feast.

Jimmy Kimmel will be taping live from the Feast again tonight. The Feast of San Gennaro continues through Sunday.
