By September 21, 2012

Follow me on:

Saturday, September 29, 2012 is Free Museum Day around the USA. This was originally an event organized by the Smithsonian Institution for Smithsonian Magazine subscribers, but anyone can visit the Smithsonianmag.com website to download the Museum Day Card. Each card is good for two people to enter one of the participating museums. The museum selection changes every year.

In the LA area, 2012 participating museums include:

American Museum of Ceramic Art, Pomona
Autry National Center at Griffith Park
California Science Center (Always Free)
Chinese American Museum
Fowler Museum at UCLA
The GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Liv e
Heritage Museum of Orange County in Santa Ana
Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach
Los Angeles Art Association
Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust
Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach
Otis College of Art and Design, Ben Maltz Gallery
Pacific Asia Museum
Palos Verdes Art Center, Rancho Palos Verdes
Pasadena Museum of California Art
Santa Monica Museum of Art
The Dr. Willela Howe-Waffle House and Medical Museum in Santa Ana
The Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, Malibu
Zimmer Children's Museum, Los Angeles (free Sept 25)

If you're otherwise occupied on September 29th, some great LA museums are free all the time, and most Los Angeles Museums are free to the public one or more days per month. To find out which museums are free on which days, check out the guide to Museum Free Days. If you don't see a museum on this list, they probably don't have a free day. Free admission to the listed museums usually excludes traveling exhibits.
