American Indian Heritage Month in LA

Rabbit Skin Workshop at HaramokngnaSouthern California American Indian communities have events going on all year long, but things really get busy in November during American Indian Heritage Month. It kicked off with a powwow and a couple of tribal marketplaces last weekend and continues with these events:

The Red Nations Film Festival is going on November 7-14, 2012 at Laemmle Music Hall Theatre in Beverly Hills with screenings of American Indian films and panel discussions and presentations. More Details

Haramokngna American Indian Cultural Center in the San Gabriel Mountains is hosting a Rabbit Skin Blanket Workshop this Sunday, Nov 11, 2012, where participants will learn the local Indian method of working rabbit skins into wearable garments.  More Details

Southern California Indian Center Pow Wow at the Orange County Fairgrounds November 17. More Details

Western Heritage Day Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Autry National Center celebrates the culture, contributions, and heritage of Native Americans. The event includes a Navajo storyteller, crafts for kids, music and Native-American-themed film screenings. More Details
