If you're not big into nightclubs or street parties and you haven't found anything on my lists of LA's Biggest New Year Celebrations to strike your fancy, but you're still looking for a unique way to go out and celebrate New Year's Eve in the LA area, here are a few more ideas to make it a year you'll remember.
Westbeth Entertainment and Henson Alternative will be presenting the irreverent Stuffed and Unstrung, an improvisational comedy show with 6 world-class puppeteers operating 80 Hensen puppets, at the Irvine Barkley Theatre in Irvine. The puppet action is live-filmed and projected onto big screens as you watch the puppeteers race around the stage. The show runs Dec 28-Dec 31, 2013. For the New Year's Eve show, the puppets will do a live countdown with the Times Square ball drop. For information and tickets, visit www.thebarclay.org.
Actor Jeff Goldblum will be performing with his jazz band, the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra at Crustacean in Beverly Hills. Goldblum will play two sets starting with the 9 pm dinner seating. $185-$250 per person includes four course dinner and show, or $75 for cocktails and the show. RSVP to Liz Dean at 310-205-8990, extension 202.
For the Golden Stag LA Noir New Year's Eve Party at the Park Plaza Hotel, entertainers and guests will travel back in time to the 1940s for a WWII USO celebration in the Grand Ballroom and a zoot suit underground in the Pachuco Lounge. More period performers will be serenading sultry dancers in the Terrace Room. For more information visit goldenstagnye.com.
If you want the club party feel, followed by waking up in a totally relaxed and remote environment, Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes has the deal for you. Party the night away to a DJ and cirque performers with a late night buffet, then start the new year off with a refreshing hike along the bluff or down to the beach or 18 holes of golf. More Information.
If, on the other hand, the ordinary wild nightclub parties are just too tame for you, there's always the Black Unicorn New Year's Eve Fetish and Fantasy Ball at the Dragonfly.
Another option is to take in a comedy show at one of LA's Top Comedy and Improv Clubs.
I just noticed that Goldstar.com has discount tickets to over a dozen New Year's Eve events including special performances at Medieval Times and magic and comedy shows.
