Periodically here on the About Travel channel, we like to pool our extensive travel knowledge and throw a little travel blog carnival. The theme of this month's collaboration is things NOT to do when traveling. Some of our Guides have shared things you should avoid doing in their particular destination, like "Don't be duped by thieves trying to show you a football movie." in Barcelona or "Don't skip the street food in China." There are also tips from our theme travel Guides, such as "Don't choose an extreme vacation you're not in shape for," from our Adventure Guide, and "Don't marry the wrong person!" from our Honeymoon Guide.
Our Southeast Asia Guide recommends that you Don't Smile at the Monkeys, because they see baring your teeth as a threat. In LA, all our monkeys are in the zoo, but the chimpanzees can still lob an apple your way if you tick them off. Otherwise, smiling in Los Angeles is heartily encouraged.

I know a marine who was stationed in the Philippines that saw a new guy get attacked by one when he smiled back at it. Now there are signs around the camp that say “don’t smile at the monkeys” for that exact reason.
