Out of the gate the contest for Favorite Los Angeles Chef was a two horse race between Chef Michael Fiorelli of mar'sel restaurant at Terranea Resort and Chef Giselle Wellman of Petrossian in West Hollywood. This one was so close that I had to wait for final vote clean-up by our tech gurus to know for sure, but Michael Fiorelli held the lead to take the win by just a handful of votes. OK, three hands full, but that's still pretty darn close given the number of votes cast.

Fiorelli hails from Long Island, New York and worked under a virtual who's who of James Beard award-winning chefs from Philadelphia to Miami to Aspen before celebrity chef Kerry Simon lured him to Los Angeles. As Chef de Cuisine at Simon LA, Fiorelli perfected his "100 Mile Menu," creating dishes with ingredients sourced from farmers and vendors within 100 miles of the restaurant.

When Terranea Resort and Spa opened its signature restaurant mar'sel, Fiorelli was tapped as Chef de Cuisine and accepted the challenge of bringing his passion for colorful farm to table fare to the cliff-top resort in the South Bay.

A recent Discover LA article on Where LA Chefs Eat featured Michael Fiorelli's mar'sel as a favorite dining destination for chefs Ben Ford (Ford’s Filling Station), Eric Greenspan (the Foundry), Ray Garcia (FIG) and Akasha Richmond (Akasha).
