The Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye is one of the most popular rides at Disneyland. If you have to wait in line, there is plenty to look at. The setting is a legendary lost temple. You and your party join other adventurers in an oversized troop transport vehicle that takes you on a very bumpy “off-road” journey past giant serpents and screaming mummies and the Cavern of Bubbling Death. The effects are great, although the bumpiness of the ride is a little too realistic.

Fun Factors

Duration: 3.5 minutes
Type of Ride: Simulator/Indoor track ride.
Overall Entertainment: Great fun for older kids, teens and adults in good health.
Thrill: A very exciting adventure.
Speed: It doesn’t go too fast, but it makes up for lack of speed with a rough ride and special effects.
Theme: Great recreation of the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. I would have spent more time exploring the interior design if I hadn’t had a Fast Pass and zoomed right by most of it. You can decode the hierogliphics with the Marabic Decoder.
Effects: They do a great job of putting you in the middle of the movie. You almost believe Indiana Jones is going to drop off his swinging rope into your vehicle.

Fear Factors

Scare Factor: This is by far the scariest ride in the park for kids. The 7 and 9-year-old in our group kept their eyes closed for the whole ride.
Overall Motion Sickness Risk: Minor –The jerkiness of the ride might affect some people. I get motion sick easily, but this ride didn’t bother me at all.
Spin Factor: none
Curve Factor: minor
Height Factor: none

Restrictions

Height Restrictions: Minimum height 46”/117 cm
Health Restrictions: People with high blood pressure, heart, back and neck problems and expectant mothers should NOT ride this ride.
Accessibility: Wheelchair access through the exit. You have to transfer out of a wheelchair to ride this ride.
Audio-visual aids available: Closed Captioning Activators available at City Hall

Tips and Tricks

FASTPASS: YES
Single Rider Line: NO
Ride Hours: same as the park
When to Ride: Get a Fast Pass. Otherwise, ride first thing, during the Fantasmic! show, or late at night.
Guide Tips: Since the line for this ride is usually so long, the Disney Imagineers have taken great pains to put a lot of content into the pre-show that you experience while waiting in line. In most circumstances I recommend using a Fast Pass for this ride, but if you’re not on a RideMax schedule and you see a short stand-by line at Indiana Jones, you might want to choose the stand-by line, just to get the full context of the ride.
