Once you have your tickets, you can board the train. There are no gates, turnstiles or ticket validation meters and no conductors to take your tickets. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department fare inspectors periodically board trains to check for ticket compliance. The inspectors usually work in groups and are sometimes accompanied by police dogs.
Note: Occasionally, the ticket machines at a particular station may be out of order. Generally, the inspectors are aware of this and if you tell them you got on at that station, you'll be fine. However, you're supposed to go ahead and buy your ticket(s) at your destination station.
