Los Angeles, with all its diversity has a New Year's Eve celebration for every taste and every budget. Here are some of the big ones. Note: LA venues are notorious for getting their event information out at the last minute, so if there's a specific party you're looking for, it may not have been announced yet.

  • Hollywood VIP Pass: Club crawls have become all the rage in Hollywood, with a single ticket getting you past the velvet rope at multiple clubs. This New Year's Eve the concept is taking over Hollywood with VIP Club Crawl that get's you VIP access to 4 to 6 New Year's Eve club parties within walking distance of each other. The number of clubs depends on which ticket you buy. Some packages include a full dinner. Clubs include Spice, Couture, Egyptian Theatre Courtyard (see Cleopatra party below), Cashmere, a bonus club to be named, and Playhouse After Hours (2-4 am).
    When: 7:30 pm to 4 am, check in by 12:30 am.

  • The Hollywood NYE Pub Crawl: This one really is a pub crawl. Your ticket gives you access to drink specials at multiple locations along Hollywood Boulevard with no cover.
    When: 7 pm to 2 am, check in 6-10 pm.

  • Cleopatra's New Year's Eve Ball at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. The classic theater's courtyard will be tented and heated, and multiple indoor rooms will extend the Egyptian theme. DJs will be spinning Top 40 and hip-hop mash-ups to a giant LED light show. A balloon drop and confetti blast will mark the new year.

  • The annual Giant New Year's Eve Lost in Space celebration featuring Fedde Le Grand, Sultan + Ned Shephard will be at the Avalon in Hollywood.

  • NYElectric at W Hollywood Nightclub & Rooftop Lounge (formerly Drai's): This is a separate party at the W hotel's upscale rooftop club and poolside lounge with 4 hour hosted bar.

  • N.Y.E. L.A. at Grand Park will include live music, dancers, art installations, animated light projections and food trucks in the three block park in Downtown Los Angeles. There will be a bar outside the park in the Plaza at the Music Center.

  • The Queen Mary in Long Beach hosts its annual New Year's Eve Voyage all over the ship. For the entry of 2014, the Queen Mary will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the ship's christening, which took place in September 1934, with a chronology of world celebrations representing different ports the ship visited. Your ticket includes admission, fireworks and access to all the parties including Bombay, India, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, New York, Cherbourg, France and Clydebank, Scotland.
    When: 7 pm to 2 am. (doors open at 6 pm), dinner reservations from 5 pm.
    Where: The Queen Mary, 1126 Queen's Highway, Long Beach, CA 90802, at the south end of the 710 Freeway, on the water.

  • Universal City Walk has added to their huge outdoor New Year's Eve Countdown Bash again this year, incorporating the Waterworld, and Globe stages and the new Universal Plaza inside Universal Studios Hollywood as well as the 5 Towers area at CityWalk. The event features live music and DJs beginning at 9 pm with a simulcast of the New York City ball drop, and fireworks viewable from all concert areas at midnight. Most areas are standing room only, but the Waterworld stage has seating. The high parking rates include admission for everyone on the car or you can take the Metro or a shuttle and pay a per person admission charge. Daytime parking rates are $15 before 3 and $10 from 3 to 4, and once you're parked, you can stay parked for the evening entertainment.
    When: 9 pm - 12:30 am, special parking and admission prices begin at 4 pm
    Where: Universal City Walk, at the top of Universal Studios Blvd. off the 101 Freeway.
    Tickets: $30 per adult, $15  for kids under 48" tall for ticket only; $75 per car including self parking, $100 for valet.

  • New Year's Eve in Downtown Long Beach is a combination of a free family-friendly party on the waterfront with music and trackless train rides culminating in 9 pm fireworks celebrating New Year on the East Coast. After 9, the party moves over to Pine Avenue where the festivities continue with dancing in the street until West Coast New Year and on to 2 am. At midnight, you can see fireworks off the Queen Mary from the waterfront.
    When: 6-9 pm at Rainbow Harbor, 9 pm to 2 am on Pine Avenue
    Where: Rainbow Harbor and Pine Ave from 1st to 3rd, Linden and 1st St
    Tickets: Free for the waterfront, $15 advance for Pine Ave. $20 at the gate.

  • Hermosa Beach New Year's Eve at Pier Plaza is a free outdoor dance party with the Lou Giovannetti Big Band and double countdowns for East Coast and West Coast New Year. Visitors are encouraged to come early for dinner at the local restaurants.
