The 2014 Academy Awards will be held Sunday, March 2. Many of the events and Oscar parties surrounding the Academy Awards are closed to the general public, but there are lots of ways to join in the excitement if you're in town during Oscar Season. Here are some Oscar events everyone can attend.
The Art of Motion Picture Costume Design at FIDMThe Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising hosts its annual showcase of Oscar-nominated costumes in the Best Costume Design category. The Free exhibit includes nominated costumes from the current year's nominees as well as the winners for best costume design from the previous year.

Oscar Music Concert at Royce HallPrimarily geared toward Academy members, but open to the public if seats are available, this concert presents the Oscar nominated songs and scores featuring the composers conducting their own music. Nominated songs may be performed by a variety or artists.

The Universal Experience at Universal Studios HollywoodYou can see more costumes, props, sets and make-up from Oscar-nominated films at The Universal Experience: Behind the Scenes at Universal Pictures at Universal Studios Hollywood. The exhibit features items from Universal's library of over 6,000 movies produced by the studio since 1913, including its latest Academy Award contenders.

Global Green's Pre-Oscar PartyThis fundraiser for the Global Green USA is hosted by a different bunch of celebrities every year. It's a club party with live music and top LA DJs at Avalon Hollywood with a dinner option available.

International Documentary Association DocuDay Oscar Nominee Film ScreeningsMost of the documentary films nominated for Academy Awards had a very limited distribution across the country, but they will all be shown one after the other on the Saturday before the Oscars. There will be a Q&A with filmmakers after some of the films.

The One Ring - One Dragon, One PartyIn 2004, Lord of the Rings fans threw a huge black-tie Oscar party in Hollywood to watch The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King receive its 11 Academy Awards. They reprised the event in 2013 in celebration of The Hobbit: An unexpected Journey. This year it's a family-friendly dragon-themed event at The Cat & Fiddle Restaurant and Pub in Hollywood. There will be big-screen viewing in the restaurant and on the patio, as well as the TV screens in the bar. Tickets include dinner.

Red Carpet Oscar Viewing Party at the Art Theatre in Long BeachThe red-carpet - dress up just for fun - viewing party at the Art Theatre is by invitation only, but all you have to do to get an invitation is make a $25 or more donation to this historic non-profit theatre on Long Beach's Retro Row. The Academy Awards will be shown on the big screen.

Night of 100 Stars Oscar Viewing GalaYou'll find some of the celebrities who don't have tickets to the Dolby Theatre for the Academy Awards at the annual "Night of 100 Stars" viewing party at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event includes reserved table seating. dinner and open bar. Tickets are limited, but anyone with $1000 can buy a seat at the table with real stars while they last.

Fame & Philanthropy Oscar Viewing PartyA black-tie red-carpet viewing party with a keynote by director James Cameron at The Vineyard Beverly Hills, an exclusive venue on 157 acres of prime mountaintop real estate. If you need to ask how much, it's probably beyond your budget. Proceeds benefit the non-profit CITY (Community Inspiring Today's Youth) among other foundations.
