Once a year you can experience traffic free streets in normally congested Los Angeles as roads are blocked off for runners and bikes for the LA Marathon. The annual Los Angeles Marathon events include the 26.2 mile Marathon past some of LA's most famous landmarks and through diverse neighborhoods, plus the LA Bike Tour, a 5k run/walk and festivities all along the course. Entertainment Centers with live performances are spaced along the route to entertain fans while they're waiting for runners to pass. The biggest festivities are, of course, at the Finish Line Festival. Other events associated with the Marathon are the Quality of Life Expo at the LA Convention Center and the Carbo Load Dinner the night before the race.
The 2009 LA Marathon has a new route, beginning and ending in Downtown Los Angeles.
