The Bottom Line
The Hollywood Heights Hotel is a midrange hotel in a great location. The hotel used to be a Holiday Inn. It was converted to the Hollywood Heights Hotel in 2008 with a mod makeover. The hotel is 2 blocks from Hollywood & Highland and the Kodak Theatre and another block to Grauman's Chinese Theatre. It's a great location for exploring Hollywood and attending events at the Hollywood Bowl, and an easy walk or short cab ride to all the Hollywood restaurants and bars. A good value for the discounted rates available, but not for the rack rate.

Guide Review - Hollywood Heights Hotel
I stayed at the Hollywood Heights Hotel in its transition stage from the old Holiday Inn. (Having a NEW Holiday Inn Express next door is confusing.) The public areas had been upgraded with a more upscale look. The guest room furnishings had not been replaced yet, but I got to preview the new rooms. The old particleboard furniture is being replaced with new curves and colors.

Each room has a desk with a nice office chair and an easy chair with a footstool. A flat-screen TV mounted on top of the dresser can be turned for easier viewing from the chair.

There is a nice restaurant and bar/lounge on the first floor, and a small business center with a couple computers and an ATM machine. The outdoor pool is located on the second level across a bridge over the parking lot. It's set against a green hillside, giving it a feel of nature unexpected in Hollywood. A small fitness center is near the exit to the pool.

People who had booked into the original Holiday Inn were surprised that there was no refrigerator in the room, since they are often standard Holiday Inns.

There were a few glitches, but the staff was friendly and most issues were resolved quickly.

The night staff didn't really understand the internet service, but the day staff resolved a DSL problem quickly.

My key card quit working at 11 am, despite arranging for late check-out so I was momentarily stranded at the pool, but it was only a minor inconvenience.

Overall it was a pleasant place to stay. Buy an Entertainment Book for $30 to get over half off the rack rate.
