The Bottom Line
The Renaissance Hollywood Hotel is a top choice in the heart of Hollywood. It is part of the Hollywood & Highland entertainment and shopping complex, walking distance from Hollywood attractions, nightclubs and restaurants, with easy Metro access to Universal Studios and Downtown LA. I recommend it for anyone seeking a higher-end hotel at the center of the Hollywood glitz, or if you're in town for events at the Kodak Theatre (like the Academy Awards or American Idol), the Hollywood Bowl or the Feast of San Gennaro Italian Festival.
Pros
  • Convenient to Hollywood attractions and nightlife, view of the Hollywood Sign
  • Nice décor, comfortable, lots of electrical outlets
  • Full service spa and restaurant (breakfast and lunch only
  • Friendly staff
  • Nice pool area (but can get crowded on weekends, or overrun if pool party scheduled)
Cons
  • Expensive valet parking (but it has unlimited in/out)
  • Self-parking at Hollywood & Highland has no in/out for hotel guests and is time-consuming
  • 2 pillow sizes - too big and too small
  • Fee for internet
  • Limited room service hours

Guide Review - Renaissance Hollywood Hotel
The number of hotels in central Hollywood is increasing, but the Renaissance Hollywood remains my top choice for being close to Hollywood attractions, especially if you take advantage of Marriott's Best Rate Guarantee to negotiate a reduced rate.

The Renaissance Hollywood is extremely convenient for Grauman's Chinese, the Kodak Theatre, the Hollywood Bowl, shopping, restaurants, nightclubs, museums, and even a couple TV shows taping. It's right next to the Metro station, allowing easy access to Downtown, the Staples Center/LA Live, and Universal Studios.

The spacious lobby houses a bar/lounge and gift shop. The hotel's mid-century modern décor showcases the original art of 33 artists throughout its public spaces. The rooms are comfortable, with a variety of configurations available.

We booked an executive king suite connected to a standard room with two double beds, which provided plenty of room for five of us to sleep, and also a seating area in the suite where we could all hang out without feeling crowded.

The desk setup is ergonomic, with lots of available electrical outlets. I liked that there was an outlet on the bedside lamp where I could plug in my cell phone.

The beds have plenty of pillows, both down and foam, but the down are too big and the memory foam are smaller than standard pillows so they take some getting used to.

The Renaissance Hollywood gets a D on the Toilet Paper Test. For a high end hotel they have sub-par toilet paper. It wouldn't stop me from staying here, but readers want to know.
