The Venue

UPDATE - A fire completely destroyed the club on April 30, 2008

The scantily clad vixens behind glass make Basque Nightclub look more like the red light district in Amsterdam than anything you would find in northern Spain. Now you see them, now you don't as they appear and disappear behind your mirrored reflection at the back of the bar. Others writhe overhead above the teaming dance floor.

The Crowd

The men behind the velvet rope controlling the list change with the nightly promoters. Saturday nights Platinum Events monitors the mix and brings in a really diverse and fun crowd - lots of pretty people, but not the too-cool-for-you set, just real people out for a real good time.

The Food

Dinner reservations assure getting in with no waiting. Prices are normal for high-end club food. They have a robust and exotic (although not remotely Spanish) selection of “Tapas” for $10-$18 and a handful of entrees for $18-$30. For snacking, the garlicky fingerling potatoes are like big fat fries. They were out of some menu items when I was there.

Dinner does not guarantee you a table for the night. If a lot of people have reserved Bottle Service, diners may be asked to take their drinks and join the mingling throng at the bar or on the dance floor. Bottle service gets you a table and the bottle of your choice. Bottles ranges from $175 to $4000 depending on the bottle. There are food and bottle menus on the website, but they may not be up to date.

The Music

On the night I visited, DJ Mike Palmieri was spinning. It wasn’t so much the mix, but his tendency to cut every song off after the first verse that had the crowd protesting vociferously. Other promoters bring in their own talent on other nights. Despite the rough musical transitions, the crowd was intent on having a good time - with the exception of one pretty young thing who was put out that she had to pay the cover charge AND buy her own drink (well I never…!).
