Whist is designed to appeal to those looking for a leisurely, beautifully prepared meal in a trendy environment. Chef Taite Pearson came on board in December 2008 with a menu based on regional organic California ingredients. With the exception of Italian salami, breads (from La Brea Bakery) and cheeses, everything else is made in house from the duck prosciutto to the pickled baby roots, pumpkin cappelletti or veal sweet breads. He's not afraid to experiment with some unusual combinations, with a rustic European spin on California Cuisine. I especially enjoyed the beet carpaccio and fourme d'ambert with hazelnuts and apple; the lobster Bolognese and the braised beef short ribs. Check your diet at the door, but don't forget your credit card.

In addition to the indoor dining room, there is patio seating and private heated cabanas near the pool.

Whist is a popular spot for power lunches and a pretty good location for celebrity sighting. Keanu Reeves and Paris Hilton (separately) are rumored to be regulars.
