The Soda Fountain is an old fashioned ice cream parlor with counter service, an ice cream window to the street and restaurant seating. Soda jerks behind the counter make sodas, malts, floats, and sundaes made with Dewar’s Ice Cream. The home-made ice cream is brought in weekly from Dewar’s Ice Cream and Candy Shop in Bakersfield, California.

© KayteDeioma.comIce cream prices range from $2.95 for a single scoop of ice cream to $24.95 for Mickey's Masterpiece Sundae - 8 scoops of your choice of ice cream with assorted toppings served in a wizards apprentice dish. The seven ice cream flavors include a non-dairy strawberry ice for the lactose intolerant.
There is a limited selection of kid-friendly non-ice cream items on the regular menu such as a grilled cheese sandwich, a hot dog or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut in the shape of Mickey Mouse. There is usually at least one grown-up-friendly offering on the monthly menu.
The eight-year-old in our group gave the grilled cheese a rave review. I chose the tuna sandwich from the monthly menu. It was huge, but the bread was kind of dried out.

Overall, The Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store is a fun place to go for ice cream with the kids as long as you prep them ahead of time whether there will or won't be any purchases made at the Studio Store. Disney souvenir bowls, which come with some of the ice cream dishes and the fruit bowl, at least give kids something to carry out with them if you're not shopping.
