The Great American Irish Fair, one of the largest celebrations of Irish culture and customs in the west, moved from the Santa Anita Racetrack to Irvine in 2005. The Irvine location is is a wonderful improvement. In addition to being several degrees cooler, due to it's relatively closer proximity to the beach, there is also lots of shade. If you get too hot, you can always walk next door to the Wild Rivers Water Park to cool off.
This is one of two big Irish Fairs in the LA area. The great bands and folk musicians bring in a strong regional crowd and the Irish Step Dancing Championships bring in international competitors. There's not a lot of Irish food on hand, but plenty of Irish wares for shoppers. Sheep herding demonstrations and some traditional Irish sporting events round out the festivities, although the sporting event shut down early on the Sunday I was there, so I didn't see any of it.
